World of Warcraft: Forever is scheduled to launch November 4, 2026. Blizzard is positioning it as a permanent, evolving interpretation of the original Azeroth—not another limited-time Classic season. It retains a level-60 adventure while adding quests, dungeons, class updates and long-term progression systems.

That distinction matters. Forever isn’t being sold as a one-off nostalgia trip. Blizzard’s plan is to expand the same world over time, allowing players to keep returning to the characters and communities they build there.

The base game is included with a WoW subscription or game time. Blizzard also offers optional bundles with cosmetics and access to the new Skyborne race and starting area. You don’t need to buy an expensive collector’s edition just to enter the standard version of Forever.

The changes worth following

Forever revisits original Azeroth with new and expanded questing regions, more than 1,000 additional quests, nine new five-player dungeons and a post-launch raid schedule. The first new raids are planned for December 9, according to Blizzard’s published roadmap.

Character progression also extends beyond leveling. Blizzard’s new Legacy System is an account-wide form of horizontal progression built around challenges, perks and rewards. It is intended to make exploration, alternate characters and other activities rewarding without simply raising the item-power ceiling forever. Players can make progress without being required to level multiple classes.

Choose your ruleset with friends first

A subtle launch-day decision may matter more than class choice: the ruleset. Blizzard is replacing the familiar realm-choice process with broader ecosystems for Normal, PvP and Roleplaying play, plus Roleplay-PvP at launch. Hardcore is planned for a later update.

Players on separate rulesets won’t be able to join the same dungeon or raid group. Faction restrictions still apply: Horde and Alliance can’t group together. Decide your faction and ruleset with friends before creating the characters you intend to level together.

See our separate ruleset guide for the details, including the October 22 change to Roleplay-PvP availability.

Is Forever right for your group?

If your favorite parts of MMORPGs are open-world exploration, dungeon friendships, building a character over time and occasional world PvP, Forever is clearly aiming at you. Its planned long-term expansion also makes it interesting to players who want a persistent home rather than a seasonal reset.

The open questions are equally important: how smooth launch-day access will be, the final pace of leveling, and how PvP population balance will feel in practice. Those questions require live experience, not promises extracted from a beta announcement.
